another obligatory post

zine day

helped run a zine workshop at city farm today for propel arts – sometimes glad i don’t work full time so i can still do awesome things like this. above is something i was working on during that time, soon to appear on a perth zine collective table near you.

i smashed yr cake

brought home a cheesecake from mum’s. i was already apprehensive as it was green on top. but i took one bite and found some gelatiney gunk in my mouth and couldn’t eat it. but it looks good deconstructed and photographed…

things i like better:

tea bought via mr kitly webshop.

also, in other news, jardan now has a distributor in perth (table & chair in subiaco). one day, a nook sofa, but for now, maybe a quincy bench, haha.

charting

more rearranging this afternoon after work. i made a creativity chart like the one here – colour in one square every day that you do something creative. i think this is the wonkiest hand drawn chart i have ever made, but i didn’t want to make it exact. defeats the purpose of being creative ;)

summer is over

the frisbee and the football have been launched onto the roof, and the inflatable ring flung high above the pool. it’s too cold to jump into the pool anyway. winter’s cold wind bites; bring on spring.

obligatory post

where it all starts.

now in full color

i’ve dreamt about going on an american road trip, fantasised about finding roadside diners and staying at old motels where the signs haven’t changed since the sixties, and definitely show their age. doe-c-doe‘s recent posts show the road in all its dusty glory. more delights here, here and here.

favourite print today

midland by marcus walters. i like the geometric shapes, grids and the way the screen printing doesn’t quite line up. imperfections that make sense! you can buy the screenprint at his shop.

tokyo home ateliers

while we’re on the subject of home studios, here is a book from edition paumes on the very subject! i’ve been looking at its pages for some inspiration. below are a few of my favourites…

the workspace of mikiko suzuki, a metal illustrator, with a space for everything.

kayoko kajima’s home studio. lots of wood, linen and vintage items abound…

ayumi yamamoto, accessories designer. her label is called “murder pollen“. lots of green items in her house, and also a strange grumpy cute cat (not pictured).

misa matsuyama, succulent plant artist. lovely antique furniture in a place that looks like it belongs in come home magazine.

studio

here’s one corner of my workspace, formerly the dining room. working on getting all my stuff in order, including the new gooco machine i picked up from the post office.   banner is a little corny (template from here) but could be used at future zine tabling. and it says what i mean.

analogue to digital

this is what my living room started looking like during the week. a mess of cables and bits and pieces. all in preparation for an event held at scitech, normally a children’s educational wonderland by day, and occasionally an adults only venue with experimental music by night. the series of shows is called “analogue to digital”, which seems pretty appropriate as we often sample organic sounds and convert them via laptop or effects into new forms of music!

i performed a piece made up of toy piano, xylophone and music box, looped up with microphone via a pedal, and then added with guitar and effects pedals. i think this was the fifth gig in about four years i’ve played solo… i enjoy the end process of the music but don’t do it very often.
for more details, lyndon blue does a pretty good review of the gig. thank you to the lovely furchick for organising, and bringing stanier black-five to perth!

new blog

i want to start doing new projects, and hence a new blog (again). never enough sleep just means i need more hours in the day to do things. collage from an exhibition held earlier this year, entitled ‘up’. that’s kinda appropriate, right?
