July 25th, 2008 blah blah

i haven’t any big overarching theme to write about today that i usually like to do in one big ideas dump. (this blog is a dump for my brain, haha!)

but i am basically trying to finish off some work before i go to japan for two and a half weeks in approximately four days. excited much? i plan on going to laforet, marui, see bice play live at the apple store in shibuya, eat okonomiyaki with a high school pal, go to the ghibli museum, eat at christon cafe and other things which have not been thought of yet, but i am sure will be much fun.

i just have to get through tonight’s late shift at the library, plus a saturday morning shift, plus one more full day on monday. that’s all…

August 15th, 2007 lucky lucky

a recently deceased patron of the library bequeathed us with some money (probably less than twenty thousand, but more than ten). it appears she wasn’t rich, as she lived at a very modest address, to say the least, but must have been a saver. bless her. her condition was that it all be spent on large print, which is my department. large print books usually cost about sixty dollars for a hardcover, so it’ll go only a certain distance, but i was just getting used to my usual tiny budget…

we make jokes sometimes about a regular who spend hours checking up the financial review, and then deliberately waits until five o’clock closing time on a friday to loiter and start photocopying his articles. maybe he’s secretly a multi-millionaire, and even less likely maybe when his time is up, we’ll be the lucky recipients of generosity to make up for the years of toying with our patience?

seriously, i had only just heard the news when i saw booktruck’s posting about wealthy patronage of libraries.

August 4th, 2007 open for business

attending library conferences is like a small recharge, reminding me of the things i can (and should) implement in delivery library services, despite all the other things going on at once. an unconference is even better, since the day is planned very loosely, and i don’t have to sit there and listen to someone read their notes for half an hour at me. plus with any luck i get to see a few people i normally only see at events like these (hi vv!). also, how good was the pizza provided?

as you know, me = obsessed with making music. so much so, that i love listening to other peoples’ scrappy, possibly scary demos. rocket or chiritori is certainly the first, but not the second. cute, but also a little, um, seasoned for a girl her age? this being the late 90s, and shibahara satoko is still a high schooler when her two albums were released. sample the two here (despite the blog title, perfectly safe). i can’t figure out for the life of me what she might be doing now. interestingly, this band’s name is influenced by her.

i keep telling myself, no more cameras, but i swear if i can get a contax tvs II, i will really stop. or maybe after i get a nikon f. oh well.

taking pictures of people for me is hard. maybe i should persist? i am always see something whilst walking around town and think, damn, i should have had my camera in my hand! or else i’m too chicken to take a picture in case someone notices.
