stayed home today with my unpredictable croaky voice, so today was denoted drama watching day.

incidentally karen and i sometimes exchange conversations about what japanese dramas we have been watching of late. sorry i didn’t talk much about that at the gig last night as i was too out of it! but i just finished anego, which involves several of my favourite themes: hard working professional woman, over thirty years of age, old enough to be considered an old maid in japan, and usually has at least one younger guy interested in her. other reference points include around 40, hataraki man and magararenai onna. yeah, maybe i can identify with some of those ideas, though not necessarily agreeing on things such as use by date.

but the last couple of days i’ve been watching a korean drama instead called mary stayed out all night. it’s everything i don’t like, right? cutesy girl with bug eyes, stiff rich guy in horrible preppy clothes, rocker man cliche. but yet i can’t stop watching it! maybe because the lead actress can turn quickly from silly to street smart thanks to her less than stellar upbringing. it has class issues, and an arranged marriage, which seems to be a common subplot in korean dramas…

*sniff* not enough oxygen going to brain, going to watch episode seven next.
