November 19th, 2008 libraries transform lives!
finally have some time to write about last sunday, aka the fremantle festival, and the thing the ladies of the library had been talking about, planning and making costumes for months in advance. that eric carle caterpillar was a great deal of sewing for the children’s librarian, with some pinpricking moments for some other staff.
the theme this year was “transform”, so obviously the festival did weird things to us and turned us into book characters… (pictures are from users on flickr)
i went as alice in wonderland, and really my costume wasn’t too much work, since i just put together a sexy dynamite london dress that i hardly wear out due to its frillyness, paired with another frilly skirt from emily temple cute. vicki’s snow queen (see chronicles of narnia) was the killer costume, but i think her sunglasses were for anonymity. and jane was totally serious when she mentioned she was coming as the ‘wardrobe’…
and here we are being followed by jaap and erik from the shanachie tour, two travelling dutch librarians who have already filmed their trip looking at libraries and librarians around the us, and started their australian leg in perth.
our manager julie was briefly interviewed by erik, and you can see some of the festival footage, with interviews with other perth librarians, kathryn greenhill and constance wiebrands (i would be in heaven if we could turn part of our library into an izone).
