August 20th, 2008 three weeks later

yes, i’m finally back home. i have emptied the contents of my suitcase directly on my floor. first thing i did when i got home was download the new arashi pv and generally potter around until my parents finished work. my grandma passed away on sunday night, so they booked the next available flight to malaysia, which was yesterday afternoon. i really want to be in malaysia right now, but it’s a bit hard, with coming home tuesday morning, and the flight being tuesday afternoon, plus work would have to be notified, and i’d be away for yet another week…

pex gives a better rundown of some of the tour, but here instead are random photos taken on my mobile, while i sort through my nine (!) rolls of film:

hotel sky court in asakusa. business hotel with tiny plastic bathroom on the right door. cheap and liveable. chris looks a bit unhappy about his lotteria burger. it would have to be the oiliest burger i’ve ever eaten, and with a slogan like ’straight burger’ i think it means no green stuff is allowed either.

i did have the intention of taking a picture of everything i ate, so this is just early days before i gave up. lawson sushi eaten right outside of the ghibli museum, watching kids arrive in the special ghibli bus. and a display at a train station for maou, mimicking a darkroom - i fail because i forgot to turn my flash off.

children’s program with toddlers trying to follow the moves. waiting for trains, the theme of this trip. i think we were heading for koiwa?

killing time at kobeya kitchen at ebisu station before meeting a friend. i’d never eaten a cream fruit sandwich before. and hanayashiki, in asakusa, supposedly the oldest running theme park in japan? very kid sized as well.

rows of gatchapon, so much fun for 100, 200 or 300 yen. making a mess of our room at ryokan meiryu, a nice little place in nagoya.

breakfast at komeda’s, a coffee shop around the corner from the ryokan. i think the saucer says, 1968? coffee, toast and a hardboiled egg for 380yen! gourds hanging from the roof at yoro station.

at the site of reversible destiny at yoro park, recommended for a mind blowing time. fluffy mimi and one of the twin sisters at the family home we stayed at in osaka.

part of the ongoing merry project by koji mizutani, huge pictures of smiling children in roppongi hills. and in ueno, replicas of torii miyuki’s teddy bear on sale. so so tempted to bring one back!

and finally here is a bonus video of chris playing ds - i was trying to capture him swearing at the game.
