my memories of long car trips include the wind beating upon my face, and white rabbit lollies. chewy and milky flavoured, and for some reason with a wrapping of rice paper around the candy itself. i gave one to my friend’s son the other day, and even when i told him that he could eat the rice paper, he insisted ‘no!’ and continued picking it off onto the floor.
for a long time i couldn’t eat the white rabbits, simply because i had my childhood fill of them, also they came to be associated with that uncomfortable feeling of sitting in the backseat of a car for far too long, wanting to be sick, but not actually being able to, and waiting for the burps instead. but i’m not a kid anymore, right?
as made famous by oz_lolitas, australian lolitas, and the like, i recently bought myself a dangerfield pvc heart bag. i hate going down to “the basement” of myer, as it is quite rag tag, but i will probably be back to sneak pictures of the toilet roll holder dolls and plastic flowers in their displays.
but the bag is similar to heart shaped bags made by japanese lolita brands, and has some of the alice and card deck mystique about it due to the motif, but costs just over A$30. brand bags are significantly more expensive with shipping added, but nicer. this thing is just cheap and cheerful. and this thing is also big enough to carry one of my equally big old cameras inside, plus wallet, keys, mobile, ipod, diary, cardigan, film…
l: dangerfield (with overhead bulb dent, and strap attached) r: milk
i mean, a messenger bag slung over one shoulder kinda spoils the image of lolita i am trying to create, although i can fit two cameras into that one.
