May 31st, 2006 wednesdays

i was almost late for work today because i got carried away cutting and pasting bits of sounds from a cheapass tape player and listening to stereolab's fab four suture. well two minutes over time when i walked very briskly from the carpark (because it is an indiginity to run).

i think i have finished the music i want to record for now, so all that's left to do is to come up with some crazy artwork.

my favourite librarian here announced today he is leaving in two weeks for a state library job. even though he brought some pretty nice cakes in as a consolation, we were still quite shocked. i realised about two minutes later i had glued myself to the wall, and all the ladies were on one side of the tearoom table, and he on the other. i don't want him to leave. he is the most highbrow person with substance that i know, with a sense of humour!

meanwhile i have a cold, and on several occasions did stupid things because i couldn't hear what patrons said properly. yesterday i kicked some korean kid (accidently) because i was in such a hurry to shelve videos. that had nothing to do with my cold.

May 27th, 2006 je suis revenu

back from a few days away in adelaide. goodwood is a leafy suburb (with a name like that i should hope so), and with the tail end of autumn, there were plenty of walks out in the cold, crackling dry leaves underfoot. the old houses are very genteel, large blocks with proper gardens, and the houses have names, and tennis courts. that sort of thing.

stina knows me well enough that when i head to the magazine rack, i go straight for the vanity fair with anderson cooper on the cover. at the video store, i was staring at the woody allen vhs section, and started to ask her which one she hadn't seen yet. meanwhile stina was balancing baby jasper on her hip to stop him from demolishing the videos on the shelves. i turned around and she was looking at the corresponding dvds - i had beaten her to the question.

we still kinda go on about nana comparisons - "we're like the weakass versions". i'm nana, and she's hachi, by the way. i don't own any real vivienne westwood - i almost bought a ring in hong kong, but chickened out at the price. i'm a wimpy rocker, and she's the cute one. she has a child, but i don't have a ren.

it seems whenever i travel, i end up buying another lucky cat. i got the tiny fella on the left my last trip to adelaide a couple of years ago, and this time i bought a tiny owl from the same shop. if you can read a little, you will see that they have the same theme. to be honest, maybe i should go for money next time.

i would post photographs, of course, instead of plying you with descriptions, but my pictures are yet to be released from my camera. i did develop the roll from electric eel shock/mach pelican, and damn, my olympus pen did a lot better than i expected in the dark club environment. there were people shooting with expensive digital rigs, and here i was with this tiny old camera. more photos at my flickr account.

by the way, have you seen my scary wall? i couldn't resist trying out with the image of kzk era shiina ringo. this took me a night of cutting and sticking together…

May 19th, 2006 oh boy

firstly, i would like to point out that the only teenage girls' magazine that i like is elle girl (no condescending articles, just cheerful fashion). i almost bought teen vogue for this ad. but since i found a scan i will reproduce it here, thereby saving me from pages of white princesses:

katiemarc.jpg

that is katie sketch (the organ) posing for jurgen teller. hun, only one of your tattoos is showing. if you haven't noticed, i have a thing for girly boys or boyly girls, or something.

katie is clearly the sort where you take one look at a picture and deduce she is the leader of the band, without any prior knowledge of the band's workings. she is also superfine: far right and centre, respectively. i am still as undecided about the band's music as i was six months ago.

anyway, i've been in a rut for a long time without realising it until now. that is why i am now paying the price with my health, and er, a dirty bathroom. the other thing on my list of "things i have put off for six months or much more" was a visit to the dentist. three fillings i can deal with, but i'm going to have to have at least three teeth removed as well (broken molar and at least two wisdom teeth). it will be under g.a. because i am a general wimp.

i have been trying to watch assault on precinct 13 for the last three days, but since i start at midnight i'm usually asleep in five minutes (i'm only putting myself through it for the john leguizamo). inbetween really cleaning up my room this time, i will get through this movie. because writing it in my blog will make it happen.

just this afternoon of work plus a saturday morning shift and then i can pack my bags for adelaide for a few days. oh please help me get over the blahs until then.
