January 22nd, 2005 aside from rory and lorelai

i was watching the corporation (the cut in three parts over three weeks version for tv) when i remembered a cruel jibe on girlmore girls. paris has a huge row with janet over janet’s boyfriend being around the place too much:

JANET: You drove your own boyfriend away, so you hate that anyone else has one.
PARIS: Oh please.
JANET: Yeah, why don’t you go sit all alone in your room so you can start getting used to how the rest of your life’s gonna be.
PARIS: I’m not alone.
JANET: Oh, really? Who do you have besides your poster of Noam Chomsky?
PARIS: Who do I have?
JANET: Yeah. [Paris begins to speak but falls silent.] That’s what I thought. Very sad.

while i always find the value judgement of girls by others according to single/attached status disturbing, i kinda like the idea of having a noam chomsky poster around, but i’ve been racking my brains for other possible intellectuals or writers to put up on walls. naomi klein i kinda like for her geekiness. jennifer baumgardner would be an obvious choice as the ‘face’ of third wave feminism, having modelled for a friend’s makeup range, though i’m undecided on my opinion of her more devisive tactics, like the ‘i had an abortion’ t-shirts. i really cannot think of anybody else at this point in time.

after watching the ‘filth and the fury’ i have a whole attraction to sid vicious (nana notwithstanding) but to put up a poster of him on my wall? what does that represent? getting fucked over and dying.

oh and this i found:

“I created Punk for this day and age. Do you see Britney walking around wearing ties and singing punk? Hell no. That’s what I do. I’m like a Sid Vicious for a new generation.”
Avril Lavigne (Seventeen Magazine, 2002)

uh oh. we’ll blame her tender age.
